Description
The anthology of modern Taiwanese prose that you are currently holding maps the journey of modern Taiwanese literature from the Japanese colonial period to the present day. In the context of modern world literature, the selected short stories focus on the psychology of characters and the collective memory of the island. It alternates perspectives of its inhabitants and builds a cohesive atmosphere of memories shared across generations from fragments. This anthology of Taiwanese short stories aims to introduce the works of previously unknown Taiwanese authors to us, as well as to build on previous translations of Taiwanese literature that have been published in the Czech Republic since 2000. Each short story is accompanied by an interpretative commentary that presents it in the broader context of the life and work of its author, as well as in cultural and historical context.
