Description
The Vyškov district is not exactly a typical recreational area, yet it has much to offer visitors. Right in the heart of Vyškov stands a originally Gothic castle damaged during the Hussite Wars. At the beginning of the 16th century, it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau, and according to legend, Napoleon Bonaparte himself stayed here during the Napoleonic Wars; it now houses the Vyškov Museum. A notable sight in Pustiměř is the visible St. Benedict's Church, located close to the remains of the significant rotunda of St. Pantaleon and the chapel of St. Anne, and there once stood a women's monastery of St. Benedict. The monumental chateau in Slavkov u Brna is particularly associated with the Kounic family. The view from above of the Opatovice reservoir, built on the Malá Haná River and a source of drinking water for the surrounding area, is breathtaking. The chateau in Bučovice is a unique example of Renaissance architecture in our country. Its rich Mannerist interior decoration and beautiful fountain in the courtyard are exceptional. Technical monuments include two Dutch-style windmills in Ruprechtov and Chvalkovice near Bučovice. All this and much more is Vyškovsko, which you can explore in the book of aerial photographs Vyškovsko from the sky.
