Description

This Czech-language thriller follows a dark story inspired by real events from 1986 to 1990. Alongside the main character, readers enter the strictest prison in Slovakia, where the most dangerous criminals serve their sentences and evil rules in its most brutal form. Its perpetrators include not only the prisoners but also the guards, who take part in widespread illicit dealings and the savage wars between prison gangs. It is only a matter of time before this explosive mixture turns into hell. The spark comes in the form of a presidential amnesty granted after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. A mass hunger strike is followed by a revolt that must ultimately be suppressed with the help of the army. Radovan Dunaj’s book became the literary basis for the new Czechoslovak film thriller Amnesty.
