Description
After the book Gates, Volts, and Single Chips, the author presents a loose continuation, in which we move from the basics of digital technology to the construction of more complex circuits – namely, our own computers. Through the example of three detailed constructions, the reader will learn the basic principles of how 8-bit computers work and will also try their hand at practical design and wiring. The constructions use the legendary 8-bit processors Intel 8085, MOS 65C02, and Motorola 6809. The book describes not only their wiring but also delves into their programming in machine code (assembler). The author does not shy away from advanced topics such as sound generation, connecting peripherals, or various ways of expanding memory. All constructions are practically verified, and although they are inspired by the 'spirit of the eighties', they use components that are still relatively easy to find today. The book is supplemented with online documentation for each construction, examples of software, and additional materials.
