Pohádka o dvanácti měsíčkách – Zobačová Hana (2016)

This Czech-language children’s book tells the story of kind and hardworking Maruška, whom her stepmother and stepsister drive into the snowy mountains first to fetch violets, then strawberries and finally apples. The story is accompanied by large illustrations and pictograms that reflect the structure of each sentence, helping children understand and perceive sentence construction while supporting speaking, reading and pre-reading skills. Each part of speech is marked in a different colour, making sentences easier to follow and naturally clarifying the structure of Czech sentences, including their information structure. This also helps children understand sentences and form them correctly. Because the fairy tale is based on repetition, children can quickly find their way through the text and build, read and understand the entire story using only a small number of words. They can read the story independently or use the pictures to help an adult read it, and can easily retell it afterwards. The book is intended for children who love stories and enjoy reading, and the pictures make it suitable for children from the age of two. It can also be offered to children on the autism spectrum, children with dysphasia, children whose first language is not Czech, and children with other difficulties that make it harder to experience fairy tales and stories in the usual way.
