Description
On the first morning of November 1755, Countess Dores da Pena arrives in secular Lisbon, the last descendant of a once powerful lineage. Dores is young and beautiful, but she knows her time in this world is running out. Each day she feels her strength waning, and she has come to terms with the fact that she is dying. Like the other pilgrims pushing through the thousands of streets of Lisbon, she has come to pray. She hopes that on this first of November, All Saints' Day, she will be heard, for only a miracle can help her. The bells from the temples, from the churches, and even those in the stunning Sé Cathedral fell silent as the service began; the priest sprinkled his flock with holy water, and at that moment the ground trembled. The frescoes on the walls depicting saints cracked, and within a few minutes, the beautiful coastal city, the heart of Portugal, transformed into a fiery hell! The devastated Lisbon will uncover an ancient secret that was meant to be buried forever. Will Dores survive this day? Will she be forgiven? Will she forgive those who have wronged her?
