Description
The picture book tells a life story about an old uncle, a caring family, small children, various modern health aids, and one black kitten. It also touches on how great it is not to have to encounter a grizzly bear at home. When we are little, we need help with dressing, changing, eating, and walking; when we are old, it's somewhat similar. But still a bit different. For one, we have our story and our memories behind us: the book plays a little with those. And then there are the small quiet helpers: they drive, lift, beep, shine, lean, see, or listen for us... Aids. They often frighten us adults; they are symbols of dependency, decline, and lack of self-sufficiency. Children are interested in these gadgets; the old person has something that others do not. The book is based on the true story of an uncle who constantly needs help with something, and a cat that is not threatened by buttons and other traps.
