Description
This picture book tells a true-to-life story about an elderly uncle, a caring family, young children, various modern healthcare aids and a black tomcat. It also shows how wonderful it is not to have to encounter a grizzly bear at home. When we are small, we need help with dressing, changing, eating and walking; when we are old, things are similar in some ways, though also different. We have our own story and memories behind us, and the book plays with them a little. There are also small, quiet helpers that drive, lift, beep, shine, tilt, see or hear for us: assistive devices. Adults are often frightened by them because they symbolize dependence, decline and a loss of self-sufficiency. Children, however, find these little machines fascinating, while an elderly person has something others do not. The book is based on the true story of an uncle who increasingly needs help with everyday things, and a cat that is not threatened by buttons or other hazards. The contents are in Czech.
