Description
This Czech-language book presents Znojmo and its surroundings as captured on postcards by Karl Nather during the First Republic. The Nather photography studio in Znojmo operated for almost fifty years: Paul Nather founded it in 1897, and his eldest son Karl took it over in 1925. The flourishing tourist trade and major changes in the region during the early 1930s, including the construction of Vranov Dam, the flooding of old Bítov and the building of new Bítov, the creation of tourist accommodation at Nový Hrádek, the conversion of an old mill into Hotel Gruber at the Devět mlýnů resort, and the modernization of the town’s river baths, provided Karl Nather with many subjects to photograph and publish. The book covers Paul Nather, Karl Nather, Ingeborg Wozilka née Nather, Znojmo and the surrounding municipalities, bunkers, the river swimming pool below Obří hlava and the Trauznické Valley, Devět mlýnů, Nový Hrádek, Vranov nad Dyjí, the construction of the dam at Vranov nad Dyjí, Bítov, Frejštejn, and the development of the backs and fronts of postcards.
