Description
Pavel Juráček (1935–1989) was one of the leading figures of Czechoslovak cinema during the "golden sixties" of the last century. ***** His second film (aside from student films), the absurd satire Postava k podpírání (1963), won several international awards. The unknown boy from a house with a shingle roof on Dlouhá Street in Příbram suddenly became a personality whose name the entire film world learned to pronounce. ***** Although Juráček was allowed to work in the film industry for only six years by the state authorities, he created or contributed to nearly twenty films. Let’s at least mention the following: Ikarie XB 1 (1963), Konec srpna v hotelu Ozon (1966), Kinoautomat (1967), and Případ pro začínajícího kata (1969). ***** After disagreeing with the entry of Warsaw Pact troops in 1968, he was expelled from Barrandov, and after signing Charter 77, he found himself under the scrutiny of more than thirty secret agents of the StB. This was followed by twenty years of forced oblivion. ***** This monograph seeks to provide a full insight into Juráček's tragic life, including what he incorrectly states or omits entirely in his Diaries.
