Description
The town of Jablonné v Podještědí, located in the Liberec Region, is among the historically oldest towns in the Czech North, whose origin is closely related to the colonization process of the first half of the 13th century. The wooded landscape under the Lusatian Mountains gave rise more than 770 years ago to a settlement with the Slavic name Gablona – Yablona, which was perhaps already traversed by an ancient land road leading north. However, the original settlement was very sparse and only thickened with the help of locators who populated the Jablonné area not only with Czech inhabitants but primarily with wealthy German farmers. This laid the cornerstone for the common relationship between Czechs and Germans in Jablonné and its surroundings. Despite the heavy and painful blows of fate that both nations inflicted on each other in the 1930s and 1940s, they managed to create a unique cultural value. The aim of this book is to bring the reader closer to the friendly yet unflattering times of this shared history, the natural beauty, landmarks, and tourist destinations that have been forever captured on old postcards.
