Description
The new volume of the Brdy edition takes us to Strašice, where in 1921, Josef Polívka and Bohuslav Velvarský were born, two future classmates who decided to escape across the border and join the anti-Nazi resistance during the German occupation of the Czech lands. The book mentions their journey through previously unpublished correspondence. It also discusses their fate in the Middle East, where they became members of the Czechoslovak infantry battalion. Their activities with other units are also described. Together with their classmates from Strašice, the battles in Syria and the defense of Tobruk are mentioned. Bohuslav Velvarský later becomes a member of the 313th Czechoslovak RAF Squadron, while Josef Polívka is assigned to the Czechoslovak Independent Armored Brigade. Each chapter contains a rich visual accompaniment, including previously unpublished photographs from the personal archives of the mentioned classmates, whose further fates are also discussed in the post-war period.
