Description

Mimoň lies on the border of Máchovo region and Podještědí. Like every town, it has a shape that history and fate have stamped upon it. Among the most significant events that influenced the current appearance of the town was the extensive fire in 1806, when practically the entire town was reduced to ashes. Another sad date was May 8, 1945, the last day of World War II, when the town was bombed. Another scar on the town's face was left by senseless demolitions in the 1980s, when, among other things, the castle and the town hall were blown up. The publication offers a walk through the town via period postcards from the late 19th century to 1950. In the book, you will find not only Mimoň and its districts Ploužnice, Vranov, and Srní Potok but also Pertoltice pod Ralskem, which were administratively part of Mimoň from 1960 to 1990. Of course, the mountain Ralsko, a visible landmark of the region from afar, is not missing.
