Kokořínsko, Jak mluví skály – Adamovič Jiří (2019)

This book recalls Václav Zimerman’s research and educational work in the Kokořín region between 1954 and 2006. It brings readers closer to the beautiful ravines hidden in the forests of Kokořínsko, the bizarre shapes formed by nature in the local sandstone, and the ways people have adapted the rocks to their needs. The book presents places including the Pokličky rock formations, local springs, rocks resembling human faces, the Bludiště rock city, impressive rock gates, rock mushrooms, rock cavities and caves, Kokořín Castle, Houska Castle, mills and the Čertovy hlavy rock sculptures in Želízy. The landscape conceals many natural curiosities, human stories and secrets, and is the birthplace of several important figures from Czech cultural life, including the romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha, poet and philosopher Václav Nebeský, archaeologist Václav Krolmus and noted Czech forester Antonín Holub. The subjects covered include geology, geomorphology, natural caves, fortified sites, roads cut into sandstone, waterworks in sandstone, sandstone quarries, historic underground spaces and rock reliefs. The full-colour book also contains 212 photographs and defines the described area from Mělník and Česká Lípa in the west to Mšeno, Lhotka, Vysoká, Chodeč, Dolní Zimoř and Želízy, including the Housecké Hills and Vrátenská hora.
