Description
Shortly after the demolition of the Marian Column on November 3, 1918, collections for its restoration began. The initiator of these efforts was politician and member of the Third Order of St. Francis – Dr. František Nosek. In 1924, Bishop Antonín Podlaha proposed that the collected funds could be used to build as many churches around Prague as there were stars in the gilded halo around the head of the Virgin Mary. This vision was fulfilled; the lavishly designed book provides a list of these sacred buildings, including their descriptions and rich illustrations, and also notes younger Catholic sacred buildings in Prague.
