Description

On March 17, 2020, it will be 400 years since the martyrdom of St. John Sarkander. Under the authorship and editorial care of historian PhDr. Karel Kavička, a comprehensive monograph about this saint will be published by the Flétna publishing house in the jubilee year of Sarkander in 2020. This work has been co-authored by several experts, including the Metropolitan of Moravia, Mons. Jan Graubner, and the emeritus Bishop of Olomouc, Mons. Josef Hrdlička. The book details the entire Sarkander theme in words and images, the tumultuous times at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and does not shy away from the sensitive realities of differing views on the figure of this saint, which his canonization in 1995 in the Czech ecumenical environment provoked. The book also presents some previously little-known facts from the saint's life, such as shedding light on the circumstances of his marriage and subsequent widowhood that preceded his priestly service.
