The book introduces readers to the history of the second Czechoslovak foreign resistance in fifteen chapters. From the tragic events of March 1939, after which those who wanted to fight for the restoration of Czechoslovak independence began to leave for the borders through various dangerous routes, through the period when the Czechoslovak foreign army and air force units began to form in Poland and France in 1939-1940, in Great Britain, the Middle East, and the Soviet Union, to the triumphant return in May 1945. Over 40,000 men and women passed through the ranks of Czechoslovak foreign formations during the war, fighting on all fronts – in Poland in September 1939, in France in June 1940, during the defense of the British Isles, in Syria and at Tobruk in 1941, respectively in 1942-1943, and on the Eastern Front at Sokolov, Kyiv, Bílá Cerekva, Dukla, and other places. A special place is reserved for the aviators, who fought for six years in the skies of Poland, France, the Soviet Union, and especially in Great Britain. At least 54 of these soldiers came from the then political district of Nové Město na Moravě.
