Ilan Pappé is one of the most prominent and, in the eyes of many, the most controversial figures of the "dissident" group of Israeli historians, who since the 1980s have been critically reassessing the established official narrative of Israeli history based on newly accessible, declassified archival documents, particularly the period associated with the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has not reached a peaceful resolution even after decades.
