Description
The new, updated edition of Brockett's History of the Theatre presents an overview of the history of theatre from its inception to the present day. This publication, which stands out for its extraordinary scope and breadth, maps the development of theatrical creation in Europe, the United States, as well as in Asia and Africa. The new Czech version is primarily based on the original Czech translation from 1999 and 2008, while also relying on the latest, tenth American edition from 2008. The main difference compared to the original Czech version is the expanded chapter discussing contemporary theatre. The second difference lies in the selection of illustrations. The new edition, comprising over 1100 pages and 800 illustrations, has adopted the visual material from the latest American edition, supplemented by dozens of illustrations from other sources, many of which have not yet been published in Czech publications.
