Farma zvířat – Orwell George (2021)

The new illustrated edition of Animal Farm features dozens of images by Ukrainian painter Ivan Kulik, as well as previously unpublished text in which the author clarifies and comments on the birth of his famous book. When George Orwell finished writing Animal Farm in 1944, he could not have anticipated that his allegorical fable about the Russian Revolution and Stalin's dictatorship would, after several decades, become a classic, even required reading in schools, especially since British publishers initially showed no interest in publishing the book and even rejected it outright – the author wrote his immortal work at a time when Western powers were collaborating with the Soviet Union in a grueling struggle against Nazi Germany, and there was a fear that a dystopian, all too truthful depiction of the reality of Soviet society might anger Stalin. Orwell was convinced that the alliance would not last long, and he prophetically embodied this belief in the final scene of Animal Farm (which is modeled after the Tehran Conference), which not only symbolizes the definitive end of revolutionary idealism and the victory of cynical pragmatism but also heralds an era of irreconcilable conflict that would soon be called the Cold War.
