Rudolf Kopecký worked on his memoirs titled "Memories of an Old Journalist" from the early 1960s until his death. It consists of eight volumes totaling 2,350 pages of typescript, in which the author describes his childhood, youth, studies, life in Austria-Hungary, personalities, events, and scandals of the First Republic in a very readable manner. He also covers his activities in the foreign army during World War II and various aspects of post-February exile that have not been thoroughly analyzed in academic literature. Kopecký writes with a critical perspective, not hiding his rejection of Edvard Beneš, offering a different, unique viewpoint on modern Czechoslovak history. Due to the enormous scope, Kopecký's memoirs have not yet been published. This book presents a selection of the most interesting chapters from the memoirs, accompanied by a commentary and profiles of significant personalities.
