13 ze Staré čtvrti – Toufar Pavel (2026)

This Czech-language comic collection follows Petr Jareš, who moves to the Old Quarter and, while being pursued by a gang of local hooligans, finds new friends and joins a hiking club. Together with its members, he experiences countless adventures in the corridors and cellars of an abandoned monastery, the streets and hidden corners of the Old Quarter, a boathouse, a deserted island cabin, summer camps beside a pond and a mountain lodge. The group encounters eccentrics, sports organizers, rogues and honest people, a girls’ hiking club and an archaeology circle. They investigate mysteries reaching back to the history of the Second World War, help elderly people, bring joy to children and struggle to prevent their club from breaking up. Written by Pavel Toufar and illustrated by Jiří Petráček, the comic originally appeared in 156 instalments on the back pages of the weekly Sedmička pionýrů between 1981 and 1984. Although it captures a portrait of its era, the story inevitably invites comparison with the legendary Quick-Arrows. Together with the Quick-Arrows, the Rangers, the Blue Five and the Aliens, the Thirteen from the Old Quarter is presented as one of the finest youth comics created in the Czech lands.
