Description
The region around the town of Mohelnice is not among the sought-after tourist destinations. Rather, it serves as a transportation corridor. Thanks to the railway and the road from Prague to Olomouc that passes through here, many people simply drive through the local landscape. And when they do stop, it's only for the bare minimum of time.
However, this is a mistake. The Mohelnice area is definitely worth closer exploration. It is charming with its nature, which includes the misty floodplain of the Morava River, transitioning into the plains of Haná with fertile fields. It also includes the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area with its enchanting riparian forests, as well as the picturesque foothill and mountain forests of the Zábřeh and Hranice Highlands. The warm and sunlit oak forests, mountain meadows, and dry grasslands on sandstone rocks are full of flowers in spring. Here, we can also find places with surprisingly distant views.
Mohelnice has been inhabited since the times of ancient hunters. The towns, villages, and landscapes here hide countless monuments. Some are accessible, such as the castle in Úsov, the Loštice Museum of Tvarůžky, or the Bishop's Castle in Mohelnice, while others can be admired exceptionally, like the Jewish monuments of Úsov and Loštice, the Gothic chapel in Vyšehorky, the fortress in Podolí, and the beautiful Gothic church in Mohelnice with its nearby tall tower.
