The foothills of the White Carpathians, a vast area between their ridge and the flow of the Olšava River in the southeastern part of Moravia, a buffer border zone between Slovakia (before 1918 Upper Hungary) and Moravia, offered little hope for a peaceful life. And it is here, in the land where bread ended and stones began, that we will walk along mysterious paths. We will meet on these paths with Captain Šarovec, who defended this region against the hordes of Bocskai at the head of the Slovácko regiment, and with Moravian Hussites, who fought their last battle here against the armies of Sigismund. At the pilgrimage site of St. Antonín, we will admire the beauty of Slovácko folk costumes, and in the vineyards of Blatnice, while tasting wine, we will listen to tales of the spirit of the unfortunate Líza. We will visit Nivnice, where they care for a bell with a mysterious inscription, Moravian Troy, as Bánov was once called by archaeologists, and we will follow the trail of the story of the hermit Jan, whose memory is commemorated by two chapels and a wayside cross near Bystřice pod Lopeníkem. In Moravian Kopanice, we will peek into the home of the most famous Žítkov goddess, Pagáčena, and we will climb Velká Javořina, a mountain associated with the tradition of Czech-Slovak mutuality, but also a refuge for robbers who hid their treasures in the abandoned cliffs of the mountain massif.
