Description
Like three golden threads in the greenery of the endless forests, the Šumava region is intersected by a trio of ancient trade routes. Between them lies a landscape full of mountain streams and rivers, blue ponds, beaver dams, and treacherous marshes. A land of hills whose peaks disappear into the clouds, a land of impenetrable forests with trees that remember the Hussite Wars. In this fairy-tale land, one day in the late 1980s, in the shadow of Boubín and the Iron Curtain, Jaroslav Pulkrábek found himself. He listened to the stories of lumberjacks, read old books, searched for places where once stood lonely homesteads and entire villages, and sensed that many things were different than they first appeared. Among the needles, he found glass beads, in the grass, rusted pots overgrown with weeds, and on the bank of the stream, the remains of a waterwheel. He explored churches from the crypt to the bell tower, searched for cemeteries and archives, looked for vanished settlements, and asked people. Day by day, he delved deeper into the past and uncovered a lost world from beneath the layers of forgetfulness. A world full of human destinies and stories often hard to believe. In the first book of the series 'Šumava Wanderings', the author takes us to the foothills of Boubín. We will wander through the land of Šumava hits, following the trails of ancient merchants on the Golden Path. We will visit Vimperk, Záblatí, Lenora,…
