Description
On a rocky promontory above the Lužnice River stands the legendary fortress of the Hussites with the biblical name Tábor. Everyone remembers this city from history lessons, and it is an attractive destination for tourists – yet perhaps even some of its residents do not realize what remarkable secrets are tied to its origin and ancient, pre-Hussite history. The writer Otomar Dvořák has a personal connection to the city, as he spent part of his childhood there, knew some of the locals, and listened to their almost unbelievable stories, many of which are published for the first time. He will guide us through the hidden corners of the winding streets and remind us of Tábor as a mining and spa town. Together with him, we will descend into the labyrinth of underground corridors and to the bottom of the reservoir Jordán, trying to uncover the secrets of the Tábor 'Loch Ness,' the bloody murderer Pinta, prehistoric mounds, the vanished medieval town of Sezimovo Ústí, and the miracles of Our Lady of Klokoty. We will also venture into the nearest urban surroundings and, through the romantic valley of the Lužnice River, reach the legendary castle of Příběnice. In the upcoming second part of the book, we will get to know the background of Tábor more thoroughly; the journey will continue on a wide circuit through Bechyně, Soběslav, Choustník, Chýnov, Borotín, and beyond...
