Join us on a journey to southeastern Moravia, at the border of two ethnographic regions - Haná and Slovácko, separated by the Chřiby mountains. Although not extensive and appearing calm and peaceful from the outside, the numerous dramatic stories etched into its history are long overshadowed by the centuries-old beech forests. It is hard to find a more frequently mentioned word in our historical literature than Velehrad, considered from the Middle Ages until the early 20th century as the capital of the Great Moravian Empire, the seat of Moravian kings, and the residence of the Thessalonian brothers, Saints Cyril and Methodius. However, people have been entering these places since prehistoric times, as the famous Amber Road ran along the Morava River, which the mountains guard. So let us walk together with authors Jiří Jilík and Bořek Žižlavský along the ramparts of the elevated fortresses on Holý Hill or at Brdo, admire the golden solid of Byzantine Emperor Theophilus found on Mount St. Clement, explore the ruins of the Cimburk and Střílecký castles through underground corridors, and search the burial mounds in Tabarky for the golden coffin of King Běla. If we are attentive, we might catch a glimpse of the black lady's flowing gown on the battlements of Buchlov Castle, who heralded a tragic event in the owners' family, and in the dark corner...
