Writer Otomar Dvořák invites us this time to the land of bizarre table mountains, which seem to have stepped straight out of myths and fairy tales. We will begin our journey at the Teplá Monastery, founded by the knight Hroznata, and discover the surprising history of the healing springs of Mariánské Lázně, as well as the local sinister demons. The legend of the hellish crows and the miraculous crystal will lead us to the Střela River, which we will follow from its source on the Toužim Plateau, through the ancient town of Žlutice, the romantic Chyše, and the smallest town in Europe, Rabštejn (Raven Stone), to its confluence with the Berounka River. We will uncover the secrets of the mighty mountain Vladař with its extensive fortifications at the summit, the forgotten pilgrimage site of Skoky, the giant boulders near Žihle, the Odlezelské Lake, which was formed as a result of a natural disaster, the baroque pearl of Manětín, the Plasy Monastery, boldly built on a marsh, the remarkable Devil's Dam, and finally the pair of impregnable castles Libštejn and Krašov, guarding the crossings over the Berounka. Interesting information intertwines with the author's experiences from the journey, as well as thrilling stories he found in old books or heard from the mouths of witnesses.
