The ridge of the Ore Mountains has long formed the border between Bohemia and neighboring Saxony. It was an untamed land full of wild animals and eerie beings that people preferred to avoid. However, with the end of the Middle Ages, a change occurred. This was due to the silver rush, which temporarily made Jáchymov and its distant surroundings the symbolic center of the Czech Kingdom. Let us embark together with the author Stanislav Burachovič on the trails of ancient prospectors and the first miners and revive the faded glory of the western Ore Mountains. Our journey will begin at the slopes of the legendary Mědník and end in the valley of the Svatava River beneath the romantic ruins of the castles Hausberg and Hartenberg. Along the way, we will visit many of the local towns and villages - Boží Dar, Jáchymov, Abertamy, Pernink, Horní Blatná, Nejdek, Přebuz, and many others, we will search for abandoned settlements - Rýžovna, Jelení, Chaloupky, Nancy, and we will also look beyond the border, as the histories of the Czech and Saxon parts of the Ore Mountains have always been closely intertwined. Distant views will be offered by the lookout towers on Klínovec, Blatenský vrch, Plešivec, or Pajndl.
