Welcome to the Krkonoš Mountains, the highest and probably the most popular mountain range in the Czech Republic, which our ancient ancestors called the Giant Mountains. Together with the author Luboš Y. Koláček, we will discuss the mysterious and enigmatic history, discover ancient monuments and legends, and meet magical beings and people throughout history. We will also get acquainted with the powerful lord of the mountains, the renowned Krakonoš. We will enter the mountains through an unwritten western gate via the ancient Rýžoviště and the adjacent border town of Harrachov. We will explore Jablonec and Rokytnice nad Jizerou, and with a stop in Vrchlabí, we will arrive in Špindlerův Mlýn, the heart of the Krkonoš. From there, we will head to the ridges, visiting places of magical and historical significance, including the famous Krkonoš huts. A number of well-known names will be mentioned, such as Hanč, Vrbata, Buchar, and many others. The Krkonoš towns and settlements of Fořt, Dolní Dvůr, and Černý Důl will lead us to Janské Lázně, the only spa on the Czech side of the mountains. Through the Úpa Valley, we will pass through Horní Maršov and the associated Temný Důl to reach Pec pod Sněžkou. We will ascend Sněžka and discuss everything possible about it, including memories and stories from many significant people who have visited here over the centuries.
