This textbook is intended for the fields of cooking, waitstaff, and gastronomy at secondary vocational schools. Its goal is to instill in students practical language skills necessary for interacting with guests and to familiarize them with the basics of German grammar. It includes: 27 lessons, a brief grammatical overview, examples of menus, phrases for interacting with guests, an alphabetical list of technical terms, a key to exercises, and a German-Czech dictionary. The proven starting point for each lesson is short texts – dialogues, as well as descriptive or narrative texts. They contain model situations from the practice of a waiter (welcoming guests, offering, ordering, billing, guest inquiries about accommodation, local attractions, weather, etc.). This is followed by a vocabulary section, which is complemented by a part titled 'Expanding Our Vocabulary'. The grammar section includes relatively extensive practice exercises after the explanation of each phenomenon. The exercise section then contains comprehensive exercises focused on practicing pronunciation, grammatical phenomena in their connections, listening, and reading. Playful and entertaining exercises predominate, where students fill in, combine, and formulate independently.
