Description
This book takes readers on a journey into the past through Antonín Langweil’s paper model of Prague, created at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. A library clerk with artistic ambitions, Langweil fulfilled his dream of artistic self-expression by creating a unique work that became one of the treasures of the Prague City Museum. The city of the past is presented by the well-known historian Kateřina Bečková, while hundreds of photographs of vanished places were taken by Jan Vrabec. This unconventional guide to the city of our ancestors also includes period maps and links to present-day maps via QR codes. It leads through the individual parts of the city, from the Old Town Square and other places in the Old Town through the Lesser Town to Prague Castle and Hradčany. The focus is on architecturally valuable buildings, vanished structures, the circumstances behind changes to the cityscape, and other aspects of life two hundred years ago. The book is in Czech.
