Description
The book is a companion publication to the exhibition Prague 1848-1918. Over two hundred pages, it presents more than two hundred illustrations - reproductions of graphic prints, oil paintings, historical photographs, and period plans that depict significant historical events: the so-called Pentecost riots, during which street battles took place on the barricades in June 1848, the complex life of Prague residents during World War I, and moments in the streets of Prague on the brink of an independent state. It also captures the periods of the metropolis's development from the 1870s - new suburbs, significant buildings, the expansion of urban transport, and the Jubilee Exhibition of 1891. The authors introduce each chapter with explanatory texts, allowing readers to gain a vivid understanding of events in Prague from 1848 to 1918.
