For the second edition, the author added the following text: Ten years ago, I noted: Today I can publish my Cold Wave. It has passed. I have returned from the engine room of despair and hatred, and I no longer need to go back there. The Cold Wave is no longer my life; it is merely a story of my imagination about it, written from the depths of poetic skepticism as a complete plagiarism of a dead Austrian... That is amusing. From today's perspective, the Cold Wave appears as a document illuminated by poetic light of free and friendly times, written in a happy hour and bound to my life by the bond of its transparent authenticity. The times have certainly progressed, says Hašek's monster of the present moment while surveying the cell, and we can only understand it in an ironic sense, that the contemporary world is nothing other than the past one. If our consciousness perceives it today as a pot of horrors, on whose bouncing lid sits a minority of the happier burdened by guilt, it is appropriate to remind ourselves that this notion was also created by it.
