Description
The language of flowers is said to originate from ancient harems and reached an unprecedented bloom during the reign of British Queen Victoria, when direct expression of mutual feelings, especially between members of the opposite sex, was almost impossible and considered at least impolite. Thus, discreet communication through flowers developed, expressing emotions and opinions that were difficult to put into words. Over time, this charming custom was gradually abandoned, and the meanings embedded in flowers were completely forgotten. In different regions and eras, the symbolism varied somewhat, and the book lists all the meanings found for individual plants.
