Nežádoucí – Siebert Oskar Georg (2022)

The author returns once again to themes that serve as a leitmotif not only throughout his literary work but also in his life as a "Czech-German." The horrors of World War II, the post-war relationship between Czechs and Germans, and subsequently the totalitarian communist regime painfully impacted the fate of the respected filmmaker and writer Oskar Georg Siebert, fatally marking his life, and it is no wonder that these experiences intertwine into his texts with pronounced autobiographical elements. From a fatherless boy of German descent, he grew into an active, determined man. For his anti-communist thinking, he was labeled a political dissident in Czechoslovakia. He longed for a return to his homeland. He lived a colorful, politically engaged, sometimes even adventurous life on both sides of the border. In 1976, with the support of the UN Human Rights Organization, he permanently emigrated from then Czechoslovakia to West Germany. Even after his emigration to the Federal Republic of Germany, he was still pursued by the tentacles of Czechoslovak State Security. Siebert's book deals with the bitterness of uprooting, the traumas of childhood that we carry as burdens into adulthood, the power that states and individuals in the roles of their representatives have over people, the desire for justice, and much more.
