Description
There are poems that never leave us indifferent when we read them - either people revere them devoutly, or they mercilessly mock them. Kipling's "If" even belongs to the poems that were once hung behind glass like a diploma awarded to one's better self, ideals, and the purest dreams of youth. The values proclaimed in it are respected and will be respected by those who are internally true to themselves and do not succumb to the evil that their time brings. Ferdinand Peroutka even elevated it to his personal coat of arms. The poem continues to enjoy great popularity, especially among the British. In 1995, it was voted the most popular British poem in a BBC poll.
