Velký sešit – Kristofová Agota (2014)

A harsh story of two little twin boys who shape their morality in a world of twisted values during and after the war. Two boys of extraordinary rational intelligence, bound by an almost mystical bond of twinhood, torn from the safety of home, immediately understand that the only self-defense against the cynicism and brutality of the world is to learn it, endure it, and outsmart it. The Notebook can be compared to Kosinski's famous book The Painted Bird. It is an artistic testimony to a horror that is incomparably worse: through a stylistic approach that works with the bare testimony of a child's diary entry, the most terrifying hero of our time is created: a child as an apprentice and accomplice to crime. The Notebook becomes a book about the killing and destruction of the angelic innocence of youth and the annihilation of primal human purity. Even amidst all the cruelty displayed by the school of inhumanity, it still remains a reflection of hope in the regenerative power of such early youth of both children. The Notebook has become the basis for a film of the same name, which won the main award at the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2013.
