Description

Khmer is the official language in Cambodia, which currently has about 14 to 15 million inhabitants. It is worth mentioning that the Cambodian king, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, is the only reigning monarch in the world who speaks Czech fluently. The brief dictionary was created out of necessity (as aid from the non-profit organization H4CH – Help for Children, z. s. is directed to Cambodia) and from the authors' sincere affection for the Khmer people and their amazing country. It was not created in the office of professional linguists, but the authors compiled it over several years in an amateur manner directly in the field. The dictionary gained its professional level thanks to the assistance of a university professor of Khmer language and phonetics in Phnom Penh. The dictionary includes translations of Czech terms into Khmer along with the necessary transcription of Khmer words' pronunciation. When constructing simple sentences, a brief introduction to grammar, a guide to addressing, and classifiers may be helpful. It also includes the Khmer alphabet and a glossary of numbers, days of the week, and months. The authors hope that their dictionary will facilitate communication for those who wish to speak a little or even well in Khmer.
