Between 1945 and 1947 and then again from March to December 1948, the so-called first and second retribution took place in Czechoslovakia. This was a process of punishing war criminals and collaborators who had committed offenses under the so-called major retribution decree (No. 16/1945 Coll.). The principle of punishing these criminals was agreed upon by the exile representatives of occupied European states as early as the beginning of 1942. A year later, the Allied powers also adopted this idea. Even during the war, Czechoslovak exile institutions developed a norm that formed the legal framework for later retribution. From the summer of 1945, 27 extraordinary people's courts operated in the Czech lands (the situation in Slovakia was somewhat different), through which more than 30,000 war criminals and collaborators were convicted during the aforementioned period. Of these, over 738 were sentenced to death, which was subsequently carried out. Among them were also 67 women. This was the very first time in the history of modern Czech criminal law that the highest punishment was not only imposed on women but also executed. In this book, all these cases are reconstructed and described for the very first time based on primary historical sources. This is also the very first time that attention is paid to this aspect...
