Description
We are 4,000 feet above sea level and need to descend 600 meters in two and a half minutes. In a spin, we typically lose 100 meters of altitude per turn. Oldo, drill, time is pressing. He methodically puts Blaník into a right spin, and I start watching the altimeter. After one turn, he wants to recover, but I didn't allow him to. We need to go lower. After the second turn, Olda no longer recovers, but Blaník is trying to climb out of the spin. Olda weighs something, and the plane doesn't want to spin further. I manage to persuade Blaník somehow. I recover the spin after six turns. We exit those rotations, positive Gs, a bit of metal crunching, ears popping. The altimeter reads 2,300 feet above sea level. I call the dispatcher; we have one minute left, we escape over the airport, and I hand Blaník over to Olda. After landing, we discuss it, write documentation, and then a question occurs to me. Oldo, how many turns were there actually? I still hear the answer today. Four.
