Description
The second part again focuses on the specific stories of other pilots who fought over Czechoslovakia during World War II. The greatest attention is devoted to the crew of the legendary American bomber B-24 "Flak Shak III," which was shot down by German fighters during the great aerial battle on August 24, 1944, and whose fate remained shrouded in mystery for decades. The book also describes the stories of two German fighter pilots who, despite sustaining injuries, had to repeatedly return to their units due to a severe shortage of quality fighters in the Luftwaffe by the end of the war; a pilot of the heavy bomber B-17; and a fighter from the renowned 332nd Fighter Group, composed exclusively of black pilots, who had to parachute out over Slovakia in December 1944. One chapter is also dedicated to the fates of two Soviet pilots who, at the end of the war, conducted surprise night bombing raids on German troops in Czechoslovakia using the biplanes Po-2 "Kukuruznik."
