Description
In 2006, Assange became a co-founder of the controversial website WikiLeaks and has since served on the board of this project. Since its launch, the site has become known for publishing various secret documents, particularly from the United States. These documents pertained to Operation Enduring Freedom, i.e., the war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, and the diplomatic missions of the United States around the world. At the end of 2016, he published secret documents and emails related to American military activities in Yemen. In 2017, he released the Vault 7 documents describing hacking techniques and tools used by the American CIA. WikiLeaks has published documents concerning many other countries, including Turkey, Russia, China, Peru, and Kenya. Some American and Canadian politicians have openly called for the capture, conviction, or even execution of Julian Assange.
