Description
Skull and Bones is a secret society at Yale University in the United States. It was founded on the university's grounds in 1832 by American merchant, educator, and politician William Huntington Russell, whose ancestor was Noadiah Russell, a co-founder of the university. Membership in the society is limited to fourth-year students who are nominated by an existing member. Members of this group often come from prominent families, frequently being descendants of politicians or other influential figures. Past members of the club include former American presidents William Howard Taft, George H. W. Bush, and his son George W. Bush. The club annually accepts 15 members, who are referred to as "bonesmen." The most sacred place of the club is a building known as the "Tomb" in New Haven, Connecticut, which has no windows and dates back to 1856.
