Description
The book "Hradní pan Brouček a jiná monstra" represents a pioneering contribution to a new field – Czech political monstrology. This academic discipline deals with the study and classification of monsters that have appeared on our political (sub)scene and in our public life in recent years, such as "Hradní pan Brouček" (Miloš Zeman), "Apostle of Freedom" (Václav Klaus), Kindl's legal mafia, the Prague City Hall, and many others. The book consists of texts by philosopher Václav Němec from the last ten years, which were created during his civic and intellectual struggles with these monsters. The book uniquely combines philosophical reflections on (not only) Czech politics with personal testimonies about events and cases of which the author was himself a witness or participant. Although the individual texts respond to specific contemporary events, cases, or statements by public officials, they form the pieces of a mosaic that, as a whole, represents an eloquent document of the era and bears witness to a certain phase in the history of modern Czech democracy, at the symbolic peak or bottom of which we currently find ourselves. Thus, the book provides an insightful glimpse into recent Czech history, which significantly influences our present and will undoubtedly affect our near future...
