Description
The Ra Group, together with Group 42, is one of the most significant literary and artistic collectives in Czech culture of the 1940s. However, its work has not yet received systematic attention, and thus there is a lack of a monograph synthesizing the reception of this group. The present edition offers a representative selection of the poetry of the Ra Group and the Ra Edition (authors such as Zdeněk Šel, Ludvík Kundera, Zdeněk Lorenc, Otta Mizera are represented). It recalls the key anthologies of the 1940s – Torn Dolls, And While the War, and the eponymous anthology Ra Group. The editorial section is complemented by visual accompaniment, which provides a summary of relevant works by Václav Zykmund, Josef Istler, Bohdan Lacina, Vilém Reichmann, Václav Tikala, and Miloš Koreček. As with other volumes in the Hidden Modernity editorial series, the anthology is introduced by a study: here by literary historian Michal Bauer, who has already addressed the work of the Ra Group in forewords and afterwords to Zdeněk Lorenc's books Drink from Any Side, Night Shelter for Romanticisms, and The Continent of No One. It is published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. – Volume 4 of the Hidden Modernity Edition
