Z deště pod opak – Snětivý Josef Pepson (2012)

Miloň Čepelka wrote about the author's poetic debut: "I am truly delighted by the collection of Josef Pepson Snětivý. Until now, I knew him as an inventive, outspoken, ironic, and self-ironic prose writer, novelist, and short story author, as well as an enthusiastic musician, composer, lyricist, and performer, and now he has presented himself to me as a poet. And I understood that a man still in love, who looks up to women with respect, rightly sees in them both a source of inspiring pleasure and correctors of male daydreams, disruptors, but also guardians of the lost and always fleetingly regained desired balance, partners who open for us, if not doors, then at least peepholes into our conscience and into the mysterious spaces beyond apparent reality, cannot help but be a poet. Poetry worthy of that name seeks to help us in the same way, and therefore, after my initial astonishment, I soon ceased to be surprised by his verses and began to gratefully savor them precisely in the diversity of their tones, which range from epigrams, haikus, litanies, etc., to mere sighs, cries, or strictly measured sonnets. They are charged positively and negatively, yet they are charged. Energy bursts from them, awakening me, compelling me to read and not be afraid to live.
