Karel Jílek Founder and technical director of Metalex, the best formula racer in Czechoslovakia and the driving force behind many projects. A collaborator of my father, whom he knew from the army and eventually became my collaborator as well. That’s Karel, the soul of a group of enthusiasts who founded Metalex in sixty-eight. As an economic facility of the SVAZARM, they could manufacture racing cars, giving several generations of racers the opportunity to grow. He has remained the same fan for the entire fifty years I have known him. I first saw him as a three-year-old in my dad's workshop during the construction of the first Czechoslovak Buggy MTX, which even the famous Giugiaro admired for what Metalex could produce on its own; most recently, we collaborated on the Bohemia formula project. I enjoyed meeting him over the years and I hope that the book, which even my generation feels nostalgic about, will also appeal to much younger boys and men. Jirka Král
