Description
In the vast network of streets of historic Olomouc, one can still see a number of preserved house signs, images, and sculptures. Today, they are merely decorations and reminders, but in the past, before the introduction of house numbers, they had, in addition to an aesthetic function, primarily an orientational significance. Vladimír Gračka dealt with this theme in his first book, published in 1986. In the new book, he included both new findings from literature and newly installed signs. Alongside archival photographic documentation, the book features a number of photographs by Karel Zámečník published for the first time. In the legends of Olomouc houses, Helena Lisická captured both the origins of some signs and the events and people related to these houses.
