Description
Paths create a mystical network connecting humans with the Earth. The Earth has determined through its relief where people will walk, making some places impassable and others traversable. Since ancient times, people have trodden these paths to connect settlements, fields, forests, and rivers, in search of work, sustenance, and trade. How old can these paths be? And is walking on them ultimately a ritual to honor the Earth and our ancestors - the predecessors? Each path has its character, significance, and purpose, sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden, and also its history, which we can often only uncover through intuition. What has happened on them, what the landscape looked like before, and what previous generations left behind? There was a time when crosses, wayside shrines, or just holy images stood along the paths. Some were at places where someone had died, others simply to pause the traveler for a short prayer. The author is a visual artist and educator from Zábřeh. The source and inspiration for writing this book was the wooded valley of Drozdovská Pila near Zábřeh, where the author lives and with which she is lifelong connected.
